It does seem that there is a wide scale feeling that we should change! The tougher question is – to what? However, some things seem to be easily agreed:
- the word ‘education’ is redundant
- the word ‘religious’ no longer encompasses the full breadth of what we cover in RE (ie ‘religious and non-religious world views’)
Something quirky and eye-catching, such as Sophology, might work. Maybe the solution is to promote school-based innovation and experimentation in this, rather than struggling to agree one name? Maybe we could be as the divinity is/are – one subject of many names and faces? Exciting prospect.
@WSHumanists @gpjelliss I suggest 'Religions & Non-Religious Worldviews' - reminds teachers, parents, pupils that its not just about Religion

@gpjelliss @WSHumanists 'superstitions' should be critically analysed and if they fail, ditch them. That might not leave much RE!

@ChrisGStreet I voted. Yes, It's time to change, including the name. "Mutatis mutandis".

@SarahCTE RANRW or just 'W' - Worldviews. In Scotland 'Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies' (RMAPS) http://t.co/DlJHkQfIWPthompsonfamily, 15 July 2013 7:44am. It's about time we studied philosophy in schools, France has always done so - it's far more open to discussion looking at morals and common sense around which all religions derive. This advancement in the curriculum has been long awaited.

Let's change the name of Religious Education to something more inclusive like Philosophy and Culture. http://t.co/DMGNvw3TNqFor more see here.
