#rechatuk I like 'critical reflection'. I am VERY pleased to see that this document does invite and encourage us to teach a critical RE.

@PhilosRE #rechatuk 'critical analysis and reflection?'
— Miss Cox (@MissDCox) November 4, 2013
@DanielHugill #rechatuk Yes, good to get a good balance between systematic and thematic approaches. We do need both I think.

#rechatuk @fionajmoss I like this bit 'equip pupils with SYSTEMATIC knowledge and understanding of a range of religions & world views' p.14

@oneHumanist @fionajmoss #rechatuk Good topic for next discussion methinks?

#rechatuk @JoanneH_RE @MissDCox @PhilosRE I also feel that 'learning from' is politically and media dangerous. Plus no other subject has it.
— Daniel Hugill (@DanielHugill) November 4, 2013
@MissDCox @PhilosRE Much prefer this to 'learning from' which always seems a bit vague to me #rechatuk

#rechatuk 'learning from' only problem if just seen as positive? How about 'critical analysis'?! Too wordy
— Miss Cox (@MissDCox) November 4, 2013
#rechatuk @inspiREenquiRE @fionajmoss My issue is that it seems (to me anyway) to suggest that all religion is worth 'learning from'.

"@imisschalk: here is something on why good RE should be on the curriculum http://t.co/ti6SwVJgm6 #rechatuk" A MUST READ fellow RE teachers!why-everyone-in-schools-should-care-about-re/

- RE is as much about development of skills as it is about developing knowledge. Before Assessment for Learning (AfL) was even on the scene, higher order questioning was the way that good RE was taught. Good RE has been about developing good arguments, to speak confidently on a number of difficult and controversial issues. It has been about learning the difference between fact and fiction, to empathise with views different to your own and promoting tolerance. Never has there been a greater need for this. I’ve taught Thinking Skills, Critical Thinking, Theory of Knowledge and these are all good subjects, but RE has been developing these skills for some time now. If you also study Philosophy then you learn the structure of logic that underpins good argument as well.
